Fleurie, 'les garants', 2008
Actually preferred this to a 2005 I opened in fall, the 08 being a leaner, stonier expression of site than the 05. This had gravel, tight, light red fruits with plenty of acidity and a stony finish. Good stuff. A-/B+
I think I agree Mark. We actually get this wine downunder! All this Beaujolais talk causes a yearning for me to visit again. Unfortunately the management wants some variety in our travels. Maybe 2012.
We had an 05 over the summer that was pretty muscular - will try to get an 08 from Weygandts outlet when I'm in D.C. next week.
I read somewhere that Garants's grapes are grown on land not far from Roilette's Coudert vineyards that, similarly, was formerly classified as Moulin-a-Vent.
