The Gargiste offer I got was the Dettori Tuderi "Badde Nigolosu" 2006 (if I'm spelling it right). I have two bottles, and opened one about a month ago.
I agree it's easy to describe the wine as a microbiological horror show, because, well, it is. I personally enjoyed it, but I'm not sure it's worth the $35 a bottle. There are some really geeky people I'll drink my second bottle with, but I can easily see that, much like some of the more adventurous cuts of organ meat, this wine is not for everyone.
For me, I enjoy it because even though it is funky as hell it doesn't cross into the realm of fruitless, and I think it wears its alcohol pretty well. It's definitely cut in the mold of Grenache I like to drink (there are not many). I find it kind of like like really fucked up Rayas "La Pialade".
All told, I do like the white better. The wine is definitely more technically intact and less VA-ridden.
I will buy more of Dettori's wines, but more for geek parties and at the right restaurants, rather than for my cellar.
