Four random 01's...
Le Gode - Really a quite nice wine with tons of dust, dried red fruits, earth and a bit of blood on the nose. Quite fresh and lively palate but quite rich and concentrated. A slight sheen of oak shows but doesn't interfere. Really a very good wine.
La Gerla - Corked. Underneath it seems like probably a pretty decent red fruited wine if quite vanilla laden.
Silvio Nardi - F*cking nasty. Vodka, raisins and almost, but not enough, nasty vanilla oak to hide the ripeness.
La Serena - Technically a good wine. Varietal typicity manages to try to peak through a tremendous amount of sweet vanilla and campfire. Drying tannins. Just way too much oak; too bad as this could have been good. I'm sure many would enjoy this, but not me at all.
Many of these date back to when I was experimenting more with random producers. I've pretty well settled on six Brunello producers that I like enough to seek out - Ciacci, Costanti, Pertimali, Poggione, Uccelliera and some Lisini. I would buy Le Gode again at the right price, it was a very pleasant surprise. Honestly, though, it's disappointing to go 1/4... but this is how we learn about producers we've never had.
