Not a resident expert, but do get back at least once a year (and for museums, opera, etc., not to eat). What part of Manhattan and for lunch or dinner?
If you're anywhere in the lower part, I highly recommend 'inoteca.. More upscale is Hearth (http://www.restauranthearth.com/). Of course, there are millions of alternatives.

I like Hearth, but have eaten there a lot, and prefer the drink choices at Trestle.
