Chignard 08

Disappointingly volatile. Never quite got past the pepper. Unfortunate. First time I've experienced this with them.

I've got +/- 30 vintages of Chignard under my belt (obviously, the bulk of those were with Michel, the father of Cedric) and this is the most disappointing vintage I can remember. The VA didn't bother me (I'm fairly insensitive), but the wine, while not terrible, lacked the usual precision and charm. The good news is that this, my favorite Fleurie producer, is back on track with 2009.

2008s (both Moriers and Speciale) chez domaine were fine today, and for my palate good examples of the vintage. 2010 Moriers, to be bottled in 2 weeks, was superb from 3 separate tonneaux; I can't imagine the blend will be worse. They hadn't ploughed some of the vineyards yet but all that we saw looked pretty healthy.
