Just to be the pedantic literalist for a moment, there is no way that the CB is fermented with stems, is there?

Not as far as I know. I'm pretty sure it is destemmed. I'll try to find out.
If Matthieu is in Chicago this afternoon I can ask him unless VLM finds out before that.

Just sent a message to Josefa, so we'll see. Enjoy the tasting. Aside from the obvious, don't miss Tom Lubbe's wines (Matassa/Three Trees). I think he is doing fantastic work. The old vines carignan is outrageous.

Thanks for the heads up. We'll have 18 vignerons in Chicago and the space isn't that big. That should make for chaos. OTOH, maybe Matthieu, Èric, Marc and Arianna aren't quite the rock stars in Chicago that they are in NYC. We'll see.

Marc's sparkling melon de Bourgogne is not to be missed.

I singled out Tom's wines because they might be overlooked and should not be. He is a top notch thinker.

For you, I would also highly recommend Silvio's wines. I'd love to hear your take, especially on the petit verdot.

You know the rest.

And I'm surprised to hear Jim refer to Croix Boissee as a green and stemmy cuvee. Not what I would have picked to describe its uniqueness. It always seemed more polished than Domaine, Granges, and Grezeaux. Still sorting out Guillot.

'Stemmy' and 'green' are different things, aren't they? I didn't read 'green' in Jim's observations.

2005 Baudry, Chinon La Croix Boisée:
14% alcohol; dark fruit and stem aromas...I think I will stick with the Les Granges bottling from Baudry; so fresh and fruit driven . . . and no green

I thought I was alone in this but I found his wines to be some of the most exciting and interesting of all the wines poured at the NY Tasting.

No he really is doing something special. I hope they find a market.

I imagine his table was not mobbed the way Arianna's table was in NYC.

Skinny jean stampede.

Quite right there. I was able to spend sometime with him. Joe believes in him. Isn't that enough?

Which Joe?

I think he's a hoot and you should definitely try the wines. Talk to him, too, it's fun.
The dude wasn't here in Chicago. And neither was Luca Roagna (I really wanted to talk music with him). But, Ariana was, and her table wasn't so mobbed. Thankfully. Her white SP68 was one of my favorites of the whole tasting. But, seriously, there were so many great wines it was a little ridiculous.

You going to the public event tomorrow?

Yep, I'll be there. Tonight is for drinking! Are you still coming in?

Yup, I'll try to get there at the start in the hopes of avoiding any crush (and also to give myself the best chance of tasting through the lineup). Look for the 5' 11" guy with dark brown hair, big nose, blue slacks and (foolishly) white shirt. Couldn't find an energy dome to sport tonight, sad to say.

Great. I'll look for you. But, aren't I going to look silly wearing an upside flower pot on my head all by myself.

I'll see you guys over there as well. From what I know, it seems it won't be that crowded. Few days ago, 40 people had signed up...
