Home from a long trip to open some of my mail and to learn that Victor de la Serna, Jesus Barquin and Luis Gutierrez have a book coming out on "The Finest Wines of Rioja and Northwest Spain," due this fall.

Victor, how on earth do you expect to move the volumes if you don't hype your book on the webz?

For those who haven't heard the news, this is in the prestigious World of Fine Wine series. If the books are anything like as good as the mag, they will be well worth having.

And of course the mandatory forward by Hugh Johnson, without which the BATF won't let European wine books into the US.

So, let me be the first to start the hype. Woohoo!
 
I have the first two books that they put out (Champagne and Tuscany). I was disappointed in both. They are decent from a producer reference point of view (potential for quickly becoming dated though), but given the depth with which WoFW treats their subjects I was expecting much more.
 
Well, thanks so much, Joe. It's been fun doing it with Luis Gutiérrez (twice runner-up in the Revue du Vin de France European team tasting championship, and a writer for elmundovino and TWOFW) and Jesús Barquín (same as Luis on both counts, and of course one of the two members of Equipo Navazos). We hope to add some knowledge on the whole northwest of Spain that even David Bueker might not find too shallow: Navarra, Rioja (the bulk of the work), Basque Country, Cantabria, Asturias, Galicia and Bierzo, with long chapters on geography, geology, history, grape varieties, viticulture, winemaking, the market, plus the profiles of what we consider the most interesting (large and small) producers: 54 in Rioja, 10 in Navarra, 4 in Basque Country/Cantabria, 7 in Bierzo, 15 in Galicia. Plus some add-ons including a not too run-of-the-mill restaurant guide.
