This was a bottle I picked up somewhere along the way and I got a kick out of the old Corti Bros. importer strip and the original $10.85 price tag. No date indicated on the bottle but I figure it was probably 20 to 30 years old.
With a variety of cheeses and six people after dinner, this didn't last long. Nearly a worrisome dark carmel color but no problems once the cork came out. Beautiful dates, raisins, brown sugar and a little varnish on the nose. The expected oxidation showed as roasted nuts. Just the right amount of sweetness and bright acids to keep everything lively. Delish bottle of Sicilian goodness.
You have to hand it to Darrell Corti for bringing this wine to the U.S. (and probably Sacramento) so many years ago. Talk about being in it for the love of the game...
