Caveats:
1) slight sign of seepage
2) arrived yesterday from NY - I know, I know, should have used Jeff's rule of holding it for two months but really felt like opening it

As far as I can tell this is exactly like the bottle I had almost 2 years ago. Still feels young and tannic though not overly so. Opened the bottle for 5 hours and then another hour in the decanter. Menthol, wet stones, and rose hips - am I detecting a theme in Sangiovese, or is my nose just too untrained? I got similar notes in a 99 Fontalorro a while back... Nothing seems out of balance here though I think a few more years would help it.

I paid about $50 and would probably do so again unless some other PTs would pop up for about the same price.

Oh, I forgot to ask: are all bottles with signs of seepage ruined? Based on tonight's showing of this I am assuming not, but what do I know...

God, no. The problem is that there's no way to tell without opening the wine. But I've had wines from one to...let me get this right...100+ years old that have had significant seepage, yet have been brilliant. The problem isn't the egress, the problem is the ingress, and there's no way to know about the latter without tasting the wine.

I had the 96 and 98 out of magnum about a year ago. Both were drinking beautifully, with similar notes as yours, except that neither felt young. They both seemed to be in a great place, tannin really well integrated, etc... I bought them from Domaine Select, they used to be the importer, for a song. Perhaps problematic storage...?
