But I have been out of activity, deactivated, detuned, untuned.

And who can tolerate twitter anyway at an advanced age who isn't paid to do so? For my part, I can't keep my eyes looking in the same direction all the way through a BB thread, let alone a twitter "discussion".

That may be a function of my meds. Still, I was never much for Luddism or ware loathing before humankind entered its death spriral. I tend to think the whole twitter thing, and not twitter itself, presents a very bad symptom. Among other recent internet things the uptake of which represents something fundamentally amiss.

So is AF afield again?

Wrong.

Even they return home.

I may be inspired enough to give up my paid lurker position.

Or not.

(Not enough demand for cheesy rhymes)

A delight to hear from you, in any case.

Shame, really.
Unless you're a one @FredDexMS, then it may go on for a bit longer. I submit for the people, Example One: good gravy, someone actually wrote about this

Fred Dex was having dinner in Durham last night with his family. I walked up to their table and took away the Roally Macon they were drinking. They can't have it.

Fuck you doghead, and welcome to wine disorder, the best place to vent your cancer or other medically induced lunacy. Or the plain old neurotic Jew from NY sort.

the amusement factor in this thread is quite high - thanks for that on an ugly afternoon. Kisses, Mr. Doghead, come back to DC.

Who the fuck said you can never go home again?
The Doghead has returned and there wasn't even a star in the East? One cannot even depend on miracles anymore.

Sirius was.

That was the space station - the industrial yeast of stars.
Spoofillated stars. Great. That's what this has come to. Who's going to be the first to Godwin's Law?

Hey Doghead. Mrs. Doghead told me you were back while we were at NVSA. Just reached a computer. Welcome back. Made my day.

I prefer XM myself, but that's just because I was into it early-on in the game, (pre-merger) and I don't really want to waste time having to relearn channel numbers. FWIW, I think that the programming for most of the channels has declined post-merger, with the emphasis becoming one more of catering to the background music needs of supermarkets, gas stations, and mall clothing shops. It's a travesty what they've done with the Soul stations, and the guts have been ripped out of most of the 50s and 60s playlists. On the other hand, the country music programming has improved so depending on what you like, it's kind of a 50-50 proposition whether or not satellite radio is for you. Unless you need to listen to Howard Stern or Oprah Winfrey, in which case this is the only place you're going to be able to listen to them. Me, I don't care much about that stuff, and besides, my feelings for Sirius/XM are influenced by the fact that I bought some of their stock at 15¢ a share back when it tanked hard when it didn't appear that they'd be able to make any of their payments. Otherwise, I'd probably just listen to my old Elton John, Cat Stevens, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer 8-tracks instead.

-Eden (Doghead, I've never had the pleasure of meeting you in person but your legend outweighs even the resurrection of Kay B, so welcome back from wherever you were to wherever you are. Was it Spooky Tooth that made a record called "How Can I Miss You When You Won't Go Away"?)

Unless they've got an entire station devoted to Bob Wills and The Texas Playboys, I'm not interested, thankyouverymuch. It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that {Texas} swing, after all.

Don't think so, but I'm always ready to be enlightened. Sounds more like a country ballad, no? Maybe by the same person who wrote "It's been lonesome in the saddle since my horse died"?

"How Can I Miss You..." is by Dan Hicks and His Hot Licks - definitely in a country swing vein, so check it out, Mark.

I admit that I miss a lot of what goes on around here, but Eden, if the association of Spooky Tooth with "How Can I Miss You..." is a joke, please explain. Jokes are always funnier if explained.

I agree with Eden re: the superiority of XM over Sirius - influenced in part by the fact that my favorite XM station was deleted post-merger (can't remember what it was called - 45, played ... well, sort of WHFS, circa 1975, plus some contemporary folk). In addition, XM buried transponders (or whatever they are called) in major cities so that tree canopy doesn't interfere with the reception. My new car came with Sirius, unfortunately, and it is definitely inferior to XM.

Love, love, love Dan Hicks - I could play the fiddle equivalent of air guitar to every lick on Striking it Rich when I was in high school.

If you love texas swing, also check out Temptation by Shelby Lynn - made years ago when she was still trying to give Nashville success a shot (although why she thought something as interesting as texas swing would work is beyong me - but it's a great album).
