I've got a lone bottle of a Joe's Special: 98 TB Pinot Gris, Demi-Sec. It's actually the last Dressnerwine in my cellar, sadly. But I know nothing about it. When should I drink it? Now? Next year? Ten years from now? Fifty? Five years ago?

Oh, the Disorder of not knowing...

I drank my only bottle in 2002, and based on that experience cannot possibly offer help, because I didn't understand the wine at all.

"The dark, burnished coppery gold color with a watery rim would throw off any sensible blind taster. Then there''s the assaultive nose of aspirin, chalk, pear rind, and mint toothpaste. The chalky, woody pear, cedar, and mushroom cave palate turns to a lingering, spicy finish that leaves one the impression they''ve been chewing on dust."

Oh, that's just wonderful!

Jeff Connell says we must hold this wine until we're mature enough to understand it. That's good enough for me. I only have two bottles left, and I know I'm not there yet, developmentally speaking.

Nathan, the wine is already 10 years old, so I've passed the early-drinking window anyway. Given that, just wondering whether I should pop it now or give it another decade, just for the hell of it. Now, of course, I'm intrigued, but this is tempered by Jeff Connell's dire warning...

--Russell (sipping on, for some entirely unknown reason, a 95 L'Arrosee while chopping garlic chives and pounding dried shrimp for homemade pad thai. Yeah, it makes no sense.)

I just had a bottle of this last night. The wine had a wonderful showing. It was quite fresh, which is curious considering the wine is not very high in acidity. Silky smooth, with a sense of depth; fruit in the core but flowers and herbs in abundance. The wine has had a bit of a rough ride over the years, often seeming short and edgy. But the last few bottles have all shown very well. Drink and hold.
