The well-known old wine-firm Luigi Nervi from Gattinara gets new owners - and they are norwegians. To me Nervi has made some of the finest nebbiolos from the Novara-Vercelli ever, but you have to go back to the 50's and 60's to find their best wines. The quality and ownership has been quite unstable since Italo Nervi died in the late 70's. Now a team of norwegians buy the complete firm and vineyards with Christoffer Moestue as the most prominent wine-personality. He already owns vines in both Volnay and Cornas and are turning out wines mostly for the norwegian market, but in a style I think would please many a disorderly. The not-that-norwegian Luca di Marchi (Proprieta Sperino) will also be one of the owners and will be in charge of the making of the wines.

They have decided to continue with the portfolio of a Costa della Sesia spanna, a standard Gattinara and the riserva Molsino. In addition to this they will start to make a nebbiolo rose and will start again making the cru Valferana riserva from very old vines (for those who remember Italo Nervi made this cru in the 60's and 70's).

Hope this is a return to better things, because there are some great vines here.
 
Looking forward to it. Proprieta Sperino already makes a splendid rose named rosa del rosa from grapes mostly from Lessona with some from old vines in Bramaterra.
 
That's good news. More northern Nebbiolo for us.

Isn't Sperino affiliated with Isole e Olena? And I think it's the same group of Norwegians who bought Robert's land in Cornas together with Jon L-L?
 
"Paolo De Marchi is the proprietor of Isole e Olena in Chianti. The De Marchi family inherited Villa Sperino in Lessona in the middle of the 19th century and produced wine there until 1970. In 2000 Paolo, along with his son Luca, began reclaiming 25 acres of hillside vineyards" quoted from one of the importers.
 
Yes as Tom points out, Proprieta Sperino and Isole e Olena has the same ownership. It is my understanding that while Paolo has his daily work at Isole e Olena, Proprieta Sperino is run by Luca.
