Hello,
We made a great dinner at the tgjp in Paris last friday with Babe and six north rhone 1998 (Jamet, Allemand, Clape, La Chapelle, ferraton & Faurie), two Sancerre (Vatan & Cotat) and a sweet Anjou (Leroy).

Sorry to hear about the Vatan. From my limited experiences it certainly sounds like an off bottle. But it seems like you had enough good wine to drink and enough of you and these damned cellar-door prices!!

Sadly & about Vatan, I got many off-bottles and over-sulfured. He was already retired in 2002. Many 2003 have refermented. The 2004 seemed more regular.
If you come in Europe, your chair is still wainting for you.
Best regards

Thanks for the offer. Will be in Europe this summer but unfortunately no Paris.

As it happens, I have great memories of drinking glorious bottles of Vatan 2002 in Paris during the summer of 2006. But I suppose many things have happened since then.

the vatans in my cellar,, 03 red and 04-07 whites have all been excellent wines in very good condition. i have never had a vatan i would describe as over sulphered.

Ours came directly from Edmond Vatan cellar's, made 200 km in a cold car and slept in a cold and profound cellar near Paris (12°C) (no boat, no trucks...).
About the 2003 red's, we try every year one bootle since 2005. 7 year later, it's still unmatured.
