2006 Foillard Py

The 2006 was so good, we decided to try the 07: more deeply pitched, cherry liqueur and velvet; it had greater depth but lacked the tension and lift of the 2006 tonight.

We opened an 07 for Thanksgiving - granted, a magnum - and it showed little but potential until the very last sips. Not near ready, imho.

This was from 750, and it showed more than promise after an hour or so in a decanter; but I agree it will be better in a year or three.

I love the exotic spiciness of the nose on this wine. It helped make me a believer in Cru Beaujolais.

Has anybody tried the Pi Cuvée or Cuvée 3.14 or whatever it is?

Again, use the search function.

Yes. It is a different beast, much deeper and meatier.

2006 Foillard is drinking well. 2005s have been really tight. I had an '01 Foillard CdPy that was inspirational.

Good to know, thanks. I haven't touched any 2005's for awhile and didn't keep any 2001's. Have you followed the latter since release? I'm still trying got get a handle on what they do as they age. The 2006 is beautiful now. Do you think it will get better?

Fwiw, tangentially-related, drank an 06 Coudert Roilette over the past two evenings. Full of promise, but still more of a textural than a flavor-aromatic experience.

I opened up an '09 Coudert Roilette and it showed best on the second day but still tight. Is anyone surprised? Good wine needs time!

I haven't followed the '01 since release, just was able to get my hands on a couple. Come to think of it, I was 14 in 2001!

I'm not sure the '06 will get better. It's probably plateaued and will hold for a couple more years. That said, '91 Guy Breton Morgon is still holding strong!

When the '05s will come around has me curious. '05 Coudert Tardive was tight, '05 Foillard Fleurie was closed too. I'll prob open some more '05s next summer.
