A nice budget small scale audiophile stereo set up for those of you who want to jump in

Listening to a gorgeous minty 1971 Canadian press Bruce Cockburn Sunwheel Dance just now. Wish y'all could hear it. Skynyrd up later on, when things start getting a little funkier around here.

Oh yeah, another advantage of vinyl - all that stuff that never made it to digital and is only available off someone's crap USB turntable online. Half of ECM's early catalogue never got digitized...for example.

OK, I'm over this thread. Unless Yule wants more advice.

Rosa Passos and Ron Carter sound unbelievable in 24/96. I have not compared it against a lower resolution, but it is strikingly better than just about any other similar recording I have. No, I have not done a scientific test.

My two cents: I'd start with speakers and work backwards. I switched from vinyl a long time ago; it just got too hard to move. There are now good, inexpensive DAC's that make a big difference. I'm happy enough with the one I got a couple of years ago. If I didn't already have the separates, I'd have looked for a good, solid integrated amp, along the lines of what BJ has mentioned.

The best quality sound I have now are FLACs that I play on my Cowon J3 and Sennheiser 595 headphones. The sound isn't perfect but it's really good, especially with a CMoy amplifier.

As far as digitial sites go, I've found 7digital.comoffers rips as 320 kbps and some FLACs, although I haven't found any FLACs I want to buy.
