I HAD A WINE TONIGHT, OMG.

Can't recall the last time I had something slap me across the piehole like this baby.

It was SO MUCH!!! SO MUCH OAK! SO MUCH ALCOHOL! (15.5%) SO MUCH STIRRED LEES!

2007 SINE QUA NON BODY AND SOUL!!!

ONE SIP IS ALL YOU NEED!!!!

It had the substantial disadvantage of following close on the heels of the elegant Foradori Nosiola. But still. Holy Apocalypse, Batman, this would wake the dead.

Hey to some people an extensive collection of Sine Qua Non wines is to be the coolest hipster in town.
I remember an offline in San Francisco where somebody in the crowd brought 3 or 4 different SQNs and we ended up pouring all of them into the dump bucket. Drinking them was like being hit across the brow with a two by four.
But remember you're now qualified for a COMBAT Medal.

Now, onto the Nosiolo. What else did you think?
Sorry, typo mine. Nosiola, it would appear.

Extremely interesting. Wildly floral, mildly tannic from skin contact, hard for me to distinguish the exact border in the texture between phenolics from skins and minerality from limestone.

Very cool, very elegant wine.

E. Foradori rocks. I don't presume to assign her a nickname. But these are her first vintages in amphorae, and it's amazing what elegance the wines have, Nosiola and Teroldego both.

Do you see any sense in holding them or are they drinking best now? I got the Sgarzon in addition to the Nosiola.

No idea on the Nosiola. It's amazing now. I have zero idea what happens over time. It has great structure and acidity, so maybe it ages. But my vertical of brilliant old amphora-raised Nosiola turns out to be rather circumscribed.

I have to believe the Teroldegos both improve with age, but again my experience is zip.

I would have bought tickets to witness this event.
I would have sold them!

Next week, I'll bite the heads off chickens.

But this thrill could have been yours if you'd wandered by the cellar this afternoon.

I missed a SQN? Almost makes working all Saturday seem worthwhile...

I remember the first SQN I ever had, ironically, at your old place. Remember that '97 Twisted and Bent (and hurling in the bushes) we had at the first VS dinner?

I find SQN best used to power Mars rovers.

I find SQN best used to power Mars rovers.

Or paired with Mars bars.

Upon calm reflection, this wine makes me wonder whether higher alcohol wines extract more oak flavor during their elevage. Makes sense that 15.5% ethanol might be a better solvent for somewhat hydrophobic flavor elements and tannins, but I wonder if there is any research on the subject.

First NYC VS dinner, anyway.

And sure, who could forget that one.

Great packaging, though.

Yeah, I have to say, I do like their labels. The contents need work, though

Hey, that was the dinner you also introduced us to Dashe's wines. I think we even spoke recently about how fresh and not raisiny that '97 Late Harvest was.

SFJoe, you lived to tell the tale!

I was at the cellar earlier. One sip was all that viscous vanillan mess deserved.

Was there any Foillard or Chandon de Briailles left when you got there?
