Our lovably cantankerous and fearless leaders would never draw attention to this but June 1st was the 10th anniversary of Chambers Street Wines. David and Jamie have redefined the idea of the small, quality wine store and in their short time open have helped to both make and move markets, happily existing independently of all the industry's latest fads and trends. In my years in the business I've never been so proud to work anywhere and look forward every day to learning more and being a part of something I feel is truly great.

We'll be celebrating tomorrow (today), Saturday the 4th with, you guessed it, a special tasting led by our good friends at Louis/Dressner. Hope to see all of you there from 4-7pm and thanks so much for all the support over the years.
 
Since I'm here and not there, I won't be sorry to miss it. But I'll be sorry to miss it. Congratulations to Chambers Street. Even from DC, they are one of my go to wine places. My best to everyone who shows up.
 
I'm also here and not there, but that's neither here nor there, except that I wish I were there and not here, at least on this august July day to celebrate with my lovable pushers. John, please relay my warmest wishes to the fearless leaders, who, on their way to oeno & ontological greatness, survived the vicissitudes of 9/11, an expensive move at a less than ideal time, the defenestration of the engine behind the NYT mixed case because of a less than ideal time, among other, equally minor road burps, which only tested their mettle on their way to the top of the emporial firmament.

seems like only yesterday that mr. callahan was asking for suggestions on what a new wine store should carry...
 
I remember my first visit to Chambers in 2001. I think I'd read about them in the Wine Spectator of all places. I didn't know from the Loire stuff then but ended up buying a 1979 Mouton-Rothschild for $40.
 
Thanks for the wine, CSW. I've got a Lambrusco in my fridge (2010 Vigneto Saetti) thanks to you.

Also, there's some version of Baby Blue on the radio, a moth in my skillet (blame open windows and doors, and desirable skillet essences, maybe?), and signs of hope in the sprung.
