2008 Dönnhoff Estate Riesling

There might be a finer QbA Riesling out there somewhere, but if so it hasn't yet crossed my radar. Just fucking great tonight with some good takeout Thai, in celebration of Lars Makie's birthday. Slightly off-dry, white peach and a gentle dose of petrol in a grippingly acidic package. It sang with the moo ping and wasn't at all put off by pad makuer pork, either. Life is good.

And in celebration of Mark Lipton's birthday, I finished off the last third of a 2009 Baudry rose I opened yesterday. And it was as awesome as having a birthday on June 6th can be. Which is fucking awesome.

You mean you didn't finish off the whole bottle in one sitting....

Don't know why. My power of self-control is a bit strong some times. I can say that I am happy that I held back a couple bottles of the '09 for this summer, because they are tasting really great right now.

Or maybe it's the aging-stamina thing. Whatever. Hope your birthday was everything you hoped it would be. In Canada we would say "may all your blues be Labatt's."

There are some people I might wish a Labatt's Blue upon, but nobody on this board.
