TN: '06 Gonon St. Joseph VV

Just logged on Cellartracker and read two glowing reviews by Keith and Salil. I want to know more so I can resist opening one of mine.

Well if Salil would post notes from last night then we might get some discussion going!

If I remember correctly Salil, Keith and Jay were most ecstatic about the wine but others were a bit calmer. I thought it was certainly delicious and a lovely pure drop of Gonon, but complexity was not its strong suit and I'm not sure it was 2x as good as the regular.

But it drank really well from the beginning so you can't go wrong with opening it.

I would disagree.

I have put my bottles into the cellar and don't plan to check in on them for quite a while. This is not a bottle for the near term, IMO.

Ok. I'm sure it will offer something else in the future. Although it was so easy to drink last night and really was pure pleasure so depending on preferences/storage etc there seem to be arguments to drink now.

I bought a quartet so didn't feel guilty sacrificing one for science. I think it shows its promise in the insanely complex aromatic spectrum. The flavors don't match, yet, but you get an awesome preview of what it ought to turn into.

The tannins didn't really show themselves until the end of our dinner. But I agree that they were pretty elegant tannins.

As they say in French, "this is not a refusal."

Let's see what merriment we can make this summer when I'm in town. I'll bring something interesting from Paris.

Sharon, come to DC too - but not for this wine (I suspect none of us got any).

I think I do, though I can't be sure since I can't check my cellar at the moment. I know I have some Gonon or another from 06. I also have some Brezemes to tempt Sharon, in case she's only looking for the odd Northern Rhone wine.
