'03 Truchot Clos Sorbes?

Matt Latuchie

Has anyone had this lately? I noticed it's on the wine list of the restaurant I'm going to in Seattle this weekend, but given the challenges of 2003 wasn't sure if it's worth the tariff.

thanks

if you drank it blind you'd never know it was an 03. unless it is too expensive, buy it. one day truchot's wines will be very difficult to find.

I will be interested to see Matt's notes - personally I'm not a fan of truchot's 03s. As I recall, I found them too soft and hollow in the middle. But I confess that the only 03 I've tried that I liked is Grivot's Richebourg.

Only 19 bottles Keith? Poor fellow :)

It's all Maureen's fault, with an honorable to Howard Cooper.

why, did Howard also not care for the '03 ?

Alas, my total Truchot holdings number a mere 9 bottles.

I don't feel bad about not getting on the bandwagon 10 years ago because I didn't know any better then (I did have a 1998 Sentiers on release, bought mainly because I loved the label, which I liked OK but wasn't moved by). I do feel bad about not loading up on the 2004s and 2005s when they were available and everybody knew Jacky was retiring. Zachys had the 2005 Clos Sorbes in stock for months at $75 and the village Morey for $50 if I remember right. But even though it was obvious that there would be no more Truchot after that, the culty craze hadn't started yet and I wasn't feeling the last-chance-you'll-ever-get urgency. I really don't know what happened that caused the whole cult thing to blow up all of a sudden in such a belated fashion, perhaps a weirdly simultaneous realization by many that there weren't any other Burgundy producers whose wines tasted even remotely like Truchot's.

Someone should really convince Jacky to come out of retirement for a little bit of "consulting." Or threaten to beat Jon Rimmerman to a pulp unless he brings in more Comte Peraldi Ajaccio, which is the only wine in the world I've ever had that bore a strong resemblance to Truchot.

So, what's everyone's prediction of the next vanishing producer you'll feel sorry for not loading up on when you had the chance? (Verset doesn't count, that ship has sailed!)
