Another little bird tells me...

My neighborhood has an unusually large population of small birds, and one of them found its way a few blocks north and east to my window to deliver the following message:

_____________
The following 2010 Clos Roche Blanche wines are currently available from Chambers Street, less 10% on any 12;
Sauvignon Blanc @ $19.99
L’Arpent Rouge @ $19.99
Pineau D’Aunis Rosé @ $17.99
Gamay @ $20.99
Please respond to david@chambersstwines.com, the wines will go into open inventory on Monday 7/11. There is no Cabernet or Cot bottling in 2010, it’s all in Pif, for later release. Our thanks to Catherine and Didier for their beautiful wines and for their inspirational vineyard work.
_____________

I would echo the thanks to Catherine and Didier and to mention that the 2010s are fresh and vigorous and beautiful wines. It's a very fine vintage for these guys, with nice clarity and balance.

I would also mention that only the Rosé and the L'Arpent Rouge are under synthetic cork.
Didier thinks Pineau d'Aunis has a natural whiff that some interpret as TCA. To avoid any problems, complaints, returns, etc, he's put them in nomacorc. Both wines are for drinking up anyway and I have to say the 2010s are hard to resist.

I had originally heard from Chambers that there was a Cabernet in 2010, and that it was the Cot that was diverted into the Pif bottling.

Was that a mistake on their part? Perhaps they were referring to one of my favourite CA cult Cabs that they sell me by the case every year.

My notes say that all the cab and cot is together in the Pif in '10, but it is also possible that I misunderstood Didier.

Pif is 35% Cot, 65% Cab. No standalone Cab, AFAIK.

They've got a lot less Gamay acreage now, from 4 to 1 ha. Not much Cot and Cabernet either.

The odd thing about this vintage is that the wines showed up in SF before they did in NY. That's not a complaint, rather an expression of surprise.

Unpaid spam: even though it has an unfortunate allergy to purple wine, Chambers Street does stock some mightily interesting bottles from Spain, which never get mentioned on this bored. So check them out...

Hardly never. I recently raved about Els Jelipins & Co. and there are frequent raves about Pecina (won't even mention LdH, since that's hors concours).

Well, I wasn't exactly thinking of those. I was thinking of La Bota de... sherries and also Altolandón, Ponce, Carballo, Gutiérrez de la Vega, Monasterio de Corias, Viñedos de Íthaca, Marañones, Recaredo, Luis Rodríguez, Olivier Rivière and Viñátigo. And the 2001 Viña Ardanza.
