Was there hail in the Iles de Vergelesses in 2001?

I recently had it and liked it quite a bit but didn't love it. Somewhat middleweight and still markedly whole cluster but not in a bad way. I'm not sure it will ever be a tour de force and I feel like the w/c is a little much for the fruit in terms of clearly seeing the terroir, but those are nits and it's a very nice drink at the $30 that it recently went for.
 
We drank the second half of our bottle last night - sealed since Friday under cork in a clean 375 - and found it a small bit mellower, with occasional hints of rich pinot fruit slipping out. No less charming than before, but still a ways off really open, for my money.
