2006 Rollin Pernand-Vergelesses

Delicious. If one were being generous one might even say it is approaching silkiness.

A bit darker than I expected (the vintage?) but then who knows where I got my expectations.

His Haut Cote de Beaune can be a nice sub-$20 tipple. Have also had some exceptional white Sous Fretilles from Rollin. Assuming the 06 Ile is still a hold, naturally.

But perhaps someday I'll try some.

One of my three favorite PV/SLB producers. Even the village wines can benefit from extended aging in a good vintage.

Wonderful 1993 version of this, yesterday.
Plenty of borderline exotic citrus/cherry fruit, 93 acidity, a wall of minerals.

The 06 Fichots in April and the 06 Ile des Vergelesses in May were very enjoyable young wines and not a waste to try now if you have a few.

JIHAD!!!!

Well, I didn't mean that it needs as much aging as the 1996 Olga Raffault 'Picasses'.

Well another bottle last night was nowhere near as delicious.

Still dark, but overpowered with a pungency that was not welcome and didn't go away with air. Not brett, not TCA, not reduction. Stemminess? Rot? I don't know, but I didn't like it.

Oh well.

Something sure hit me. And I didn't like it.

And I made the mistake of cautiously waiting to see if it would go away with air, so by the time my verdict was soundly negative it was too late to (responsibly) open another bottle.

Oh well, I'll live to drink again another day. Tonight for example.

go ahead, be irresponsible! it make for interesting late night disorder posts.

Interesting, I know there was a lot of bottle variation in the 6 1993s I acquired a year or two ago. 2 were incredibly, hauntingly beautiful, 2 were quite good and 2 were acceptable.

May 2010.

I had about the same quality proportions.

I have one left.

you guys do know you're talking about burgundy, right?

Yes, I know. No less a personage than Robert Parker has stated that a good rule of thumb for Burgundy is to drink it within 10 years of the vintage date.

I think it was one of his successors that made a similar recommendation for Huet.
