Weather in France

I thought standard wisdom was that growers (and of course Parker) like hot, dry years. My guess is that the Southern Rhone will be able to make wines more like those prior to 98, which will be good news for many of us, but not standard wisdom.

The rain has certainly been good and there hasn't been too much of it. The bizarre coolness (the weather was delightful, but not summery)may be something else. It wasn't good for tomatoes, at any rate. That I can attest to.

Some believe it never even happened....

I'd like to believe that it never happened. A quick check of my cellar supports that notion.

That puts this year on a par with the early harvests of the "mythical" years 1893, 1976, 2003 and 2007.

2003 mythical?

You should try 2003 Chamonard...

"He said the Burgundy system may have to be reviewed - the plants are too low and the rows too dense. Even the grape varieties may need to be looked at."

Looks like Oliver De Moor has been reading the marcassin mailer.
