earthquake!

Bunch of pussiesUnless the magnitude is at least 6.4 or 6.5 it's not worth mentioning here in CA. Many Napa cabs leave a stronger impression.
True. Just dropping a case of those ultra-thick bottles registers about a 3.0.

I felt it quite clearly at home. I don't think it was strong enough to break wine bottles, Maureen, so you should be safe too.

Jonathan, the question is, did it cause any bottles not well-secured to fall - I've got a ton of bottles on top of my racking. My friend lost some 02 truchot, among other things.

From what I hear, there's been some broken glass in Brooklyn and, when I got out of the subway on Bedford, in Brooklyn, there's a church right there that looks like something fell down. They had evacuated the church and it looked like some scaffolding, or something, had fallen down.

Fwiw, Brooklyn will get harder than Manhattan as we have the famous Manhattan schist in the city, which allowed us to build tall, whereas all of Long Island is essentially glacial deposit. Not the place to be in an earthquake.

Which is...what should we drink to celebrate the fact that it was an earthquake and not something more sinister?

PS - felt it on the 32nd floor of my office building in Manhattan

my office building in Georgetown was evacuated - building lurched and rolled noticeably for 10-15 seconds. lots of frayed nerves and no noticeable damage.

Watch those bottles bounce!!

The breaker looked like it came out of the Cali Pinot section, so perhaps no great loss. Enjoyed the linked short of Phil chatting about Cordier Beaujolais - he should do more of those.

I'm surprised by the impact felt in New York. After reading the Brad's experience in the subway, I checked for mine stories in West Virginia. Nothing there, but apparently two nuclear reactors at the North Anna plant - not far from here - shut down.

I understood the question. By now, you are home and can contradict me. But nothing of ours dropped from any counters, perimeters or racks. I'm guessing and hoping the same was true for you.

It seemed like a lot of shaking here but even though I have many piles of stuff precariously balanced around the apartment nothing seemed to fall. Good luck M.

the only thing that fell - from a stand on top of my kitchen armoire - was my big round "tomato" plate! It was on the floor in my sunroom - but all in one piece.

And the wine is fine.

God loves Truchot!

We evacuated our building. Not sure why. I would think it would be more likely that some loose impediment outside would fall than a concrete reinforced office building would collapse.

Hard to believe but I forgot to check my wine cellar last night. I will be glad when today ends so I can check it. David, I hope that you are correct.

I checked my cellar in Connecticut last night. I did have a couple of bottles that slid out of place from the rolling up this way. Luckily things are so packed there really wasn't anywhere for them to go.
