Wine tonight

Porter Creek 2003 Syrah, Timbervine Ranch - 14.7%, opened two nights ago, this had soft tannins and bitter, pruny fruit; I let it sit, recorked, in the fridge for two days; now, it's so much better: there's black raspberry or black cherry fruit here, the tannins are back in balance, there's a bit of underbrush and damp forest smells in it; no sign of all that alcohol, except maybe a slight viscous feel. I'm pretty happy with the Day 3 performance.

What did you drink tonight?

2010 CRB L'Arpent Rouge
2010 Clos de l'Élu Terre! (Sauv Blanc! On Anjou schist! Wow!)
2010 CRB Pif (I think this needs an exclamation mark as well)
2009 Ch. des Vaults/Dom. du Closel/whatever name the family wants to use La Jalousie
2009 Coulée de Serrant
2009 Damien Laureau 'Les Genêts' (Savennieres, natch)
1999 Damien Laureau 'Les Genêts'

In that order. Oh dear, I import all of these wines. Sold out of the first and last wines.

08 edmond cornu chorey les beaune blanc. my first clb blanc. great acidity and balance. the overall experience was 'alive she cried' by the doors and more.

2010 CRB Rosé, which was very delicate and subtle at first, but developed an intense sweet red berry smell after a couple hours and a lot of coaxing. I had been busy drinking the 2010 Baudry Rosé this summer and had not even tried this until last night.

Dinner at the Fig with my girl; 2007 Do Ferreiro Albarino, Cepas Vellas; we shared fried calamari, tomato and watermelon salad, and, heirloom tomato pizza.
It got considarably better as it warmed to room temp.
Best, Jim

Yesterday afternoon I walked over to Marea for lunch after my dentist appointment and had a glass of Drusian Prosecco and a glass of 2010 SP68. The fusilli with octopus and bone marrow wasn't quite as good as the last time but still good.

found the remains of 2006 F Cotat Rose in the fridge, which you had actually tasted on August 8th! Amazing how well it held up. A touch of that masterfully engineered RS does not hurt either.

2009 Domaine de L'Ecu 'Expression de Granite' Muscadet SeM sur lie

which was rounded and full, vividly acidic but without the intensity of fruit that I'd expect. Very nice, but not displacing Clos des Briords and Le L d'Or from my affections.

Big Sky IPA for me. I'm spending a whole lot more mental energy on beer than wine right now because I'm going schnooky by entering the beer distribution racket.

I'm not done with science for philosophical reasons, just practical ones. (The 120 mile commute tends to grate...) I think I ran my last flash chromotography column for the forseeable future yesterday.

Cheers,

Kevin
