06-07 Baroli

2007 Monprivato barrel sample

Curiously not stinky, tight with nice subtle notes of rose and raspberry. This strikes me as a bit low in acid up front but then it does freshen in the mouth. The tannins are nicely ripe but firmly present adding a savory edge to the red fruit on the palate. Turns nice floral in the mouth, rose petal aromatics and gains some minerality on the finish which shows good length. A very successful 2007 that has richness and ripeness yet remains fresh and rather elegant. All the pieces are here and the only thing this lacks is a bit of tension and excitement in the mouth 90-93 points for those who care about such things.

like a hot vintage with underripe phenolics and the detail cooked out of the wine.

Yes

OK, based on the one bottle I had, I agree - this was the 07 Marcarini Brunate.

I am having the 2007 Pelissero Barbaresco Nubbiola and I find it kind of a mess right now. I hope it gets better, and I hope that the few 2007s that I bought (Mascarello, Vietti, Rinaldi and Grasso) will end up much better than what seems to emanating from the few 07s that I tried.
