The penny having recently (and finally) dropped about Chile being low altitude (Andes notwithstanding), three weeks ago I decided to give a pair of lower alcohol Chilean pinots a try (low latitude notwithstanding). One must stress the second syllable of pinot when dwelling on any familiarity between these and the humblest Boor goan knee. One of them (forget which) did look like pinot, the best that can be said for it. Neither tasted anywhere near. Stewed fruit, low acid, repulsive flavor of cough syrup mixed with cherry extract. They were not undifferentiated: one of them (forget which) was worse than the other. Both were unbelievably horrid. I have tried my best to forget them, but the trauma grips my delicate sensibility like a vise forged in Hades. Perhaps I can exorcise by posting.
