2007 Puffeney Arbois Pinot Noir

I am a little embarrassed to say this is my first Puffeney (I think). What an engaging wine. Beguiling nose. Wonderfully savory and minerally. A savory bomb, in fact.

Now I get the fuss.

Mme L came home and as is our practice I handed her a glass and requested an analysis.

Her: "Cornas?...no, ....something Burgundian? Northern? It's really good."

That is a nice analysis.

Juge does come to mind.

Wait till you try his Trousseau.
And the whites too. Brian C opened a stunning older bottle of Cuvee Sacha this summer.

I haven't had the Pinot Noir yet. I liked the Trousseau very much. Alas the Poulsard will not replace Overnoy for me and I've been looking for something to replace Overnoy since it started costing north of $60 a bottle.

What about Ganevat? Not inexpensive, but generally less than Overnoy/Houillon goes for these days.

Oh, give it a week.

I've looked to try Ganevat, but it disappears from Chambers street faster than I can put together a mixed case to order it. I'll keep trying.

You and I participating on this thread raises another issue. I've always figured that my taste for Jura, given my taste for Southern Rhone, was just anomalous. Maybe there's a commonality I haven't perceived.

Can't guarantee it'll also won't disappear quickly, but keep your eyes peeled for Bindernagel's (Chais du Vieux Bourg) Poulsard. Blew me away the time I had it.

I think it's just anomalous, apart, of course, from liking what is right and true.

Nope.

No disrespect intended, really, but I don't think you are in line to vote since, not liking Southern Rhone wines, you can't, at least by pure introspection, find a commonality if there is one.

Ah, but that was my basis for disagreement (in other environments there would have been a combination of punctuation marks to indicate that the observation was meant frivolously). I agree that this does not stand up to an even very slightly rigorous analysis as any commonality that existed might very well be obscured by the numerous flaws which grenache usually displays.
