Old and New From California

As i write the first two notes, i am putting aside that Jim is a friend, but as most know on here that's not easy to do...

Cowan Cellars, ISA, 2010- golden in color from the skin contact i assume, this already shows complexity but has nice cut and lovely citrus fruit flavors. nice mineralty works with the fruit.delicious. very different sauvignon blanc (in a good way) from all teh other sonoma sauvignon blancs i tasted while on a recent trip to healdsburg. interesting to see where this will go with some cellaring. my guess is it will develop and gain complexity.

Cowan Cellars, 2010 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir- i could put a long list of descriptors here but let me just say this is flat out lovely wine. i could drink this all day. seriously. medium bodied red fruit with an earthy undertone to balance the fruit and the acidity. great with grilled pork chops and apple cider braised fennel.

Dashe, L'enfants Terribles Dry Creek Valley Grenache 2009- mouthwatering, medium bodied and just great on the table. this worked with burgers one night and grilled vegtables the next. i don't drink enough grenache from southern france to make a comparison but my guess is this is softer and rounder and not as spicy. a definite rebuy.

Dashe, L'enfants Terribles Mcfadden Ranch Zinfandel 2009- wow! think more moulin a vent than dry creek zin. another wine i could drink a lot of. i can't remember ever saying that about zin. astounding to me that zin can resemble gamay from beaujolais. another repurchase.

1996 Ride Geyserville- big ripe and raisiny. i have recently drunk and enjoyed some mid 90's ridge zins but this just isn't my thing. others at the table disagreed. some strongly.

1992 Stony Hill Napa Valley Chardonnay- nicely complex with some creamy fruit and decent acidity the first 30 minutes in the glass. as it opened up, it got softer and less interesting to me. still,a terrific wine.this actually worked well with the last tomatos of the season drizzled with dry creek valley olive oil and basil from the garden.

I believe it was the '10 Cowan Isa that Jim brought up to a picnic at Cain Vineyards in July and I found it quite tasty. I haven't tried his Pinot yet, though.

A little birdie recently told me that Manhattan Fine Wines, in Manhattan Beach, is now carrying Jim's wines.

Brad,
That was the 2008 version up at Cain.
We bottled the 2010 in August.
And yes, Manhattan Fine Wines now carries our wines.
Best, Jim

Do you really think that Lou appreciates being called a little birdie? Just sayin'
