Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut '02 en Magnum -- Pale yellow, complex bouquet, some nuttiness, apples, dry/delicate style, nice weight/grip/balance, built to make old bones. [E]

BBQ Gulf Crab with Hoja Santa Seaweed
Lobster Toast with Lobster Roe Cream
Crisp Branzino with Herb Tartar Sauce
Rabbit Rillett with Thyme Calimyrna Figs

Domaine Hippolyte Reverdy Sancerre '10 -- Light yellow, typical grassiness, racy profile, quite forward style, strong flavors that are appealing, minerals, citrus fruits, versatile food wine. [E]

Served with Crudo of Gulf Snapper with Grapefruit and Buttermilk Broth, Avocado, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil...

Louis Latour Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru '05 -- Golden yellow, expressive bouquet, citrus fruits, notable oak, light to medium acid, smooth, perhaps a bit non-descript, honey, nuts. [VG - E]

Served with Crudo of Wagyu Beef with Quail Egg and Tarragon Salad, Minced Black Truffles...

Méo-Camuzet Chambolle-Musigny Les Feusselottes 1er Cru '03 -- Dark red, effusive nose, raspberries, dark cherries, smoke, round almost feminine, generous/plush profile, medium complex. [E]

Domaine René Engel Clos Vougeot Grand Cru '03 -- Bright dark red, strong fruit components, earth, cherries, elegant and finesseful, elements nicely in balance, medium complex, appealing richness. [E]

Both Burgundies served with Wood Roasted Squab with Napa Cabbage and Rendered Foie Gras, Fava Bean Puree and Roasted Bacon...

Chateau Lanessan '82 -- Good red color, lovely generous Claret nose, violets, cigar box, tobacco, dark fruits, mild personality befitting its maturity, refined, excellent showing. [E]

Opus One '82 -- Dark red, blueberries, smoke, some earth, Bordeaux-like, dried fruits nuances, still good life if a bit evolved, interesting. [VG - E]

Fisher Wedding Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon '96 -- Dark red, light leather, tar, tobacco, complex nose, perhaps a bit dry, deep black fruits, some earth, still good structure. [E]

These three wines served with Wood Roasted Colorado Lamb with Braised Cioppolini Onions, Belgian Endive and Watercress...

Chateau Rieussec '05 -- Golden, candied fruits, pears/apples, lush aromas, caramel, spicy complexity, maybe some cloves, only medium grip, no edges, quite generous. [E]

Ian, Yes, the showing of the 2003s was a topic of discussion at the dinner and I expected someone here on WD to perhaps say something also.

Both of the 2003 Burgundies were delightful, especially perhaps the Engel (whose wines were often favorites of mine).

I have only tasted one 03, an F. Magnien C-M Bournique that we opened about two years ago. Rather good, I thought, though - naturally - young. Maybe a bit flashy for severe traditionalists.

I pulled another bottle of this tonight from a different stash and the quote back note is totally confirmed.

Really fine...in this case served with sauteed foie gras/pears/onions/spinach followed by cheeses/marcona almonds/fresh greens, then macarons.
