Incidentally, I have learned that there is some confusion about the pronunciation. The pronunciation called for at this link is consistent with my understanding (place your cursor over "offal")...

Minor note, but there are no rattlesnakes in Japan (they are, I believe, native only to the Americas), so unless Japanese are importing dried rattelsnake blood, that's inaccurate. There is in Japan, however, a "folk remedy' called habu-shu (literally, "viper liquor") made from putting a viper into a distilled liquor solution. Apparently quite popular in Okinawa.
