Also, I've never had a less-than-stellar showing of '96 Clos des Briords. What was up there?

Stuff happens.
Wasn't as fresh as any of the bottles we've tasted together.

great showing for 07 descombes
Just the kind of wine that could divert Levi from all those 09s he can't stop drinking

Also, I thought the Coudert showed well, as it has each of the three or four times I have tasted the 2010 "regular" bottling. Other than that, you and I had quite similar snap judgments.
The bottle I opened tonight is fabulous, although it's closing up a bit as the night wears on. Can't wait to try the Tardive.

Agreed. It was slightly cheesey and getting acid-deficient. Disappointing, really. (There was also a Cazin 2002 Cour-Cheverny that was very, very slightly corked but it was poured, anyway.)

Is it finally time to drink that Farou?
This one was close to ready. You might queue one up for a slot in the next year or three.

Here's the thing: I certainly approve of the man's taste in beverages but he had a nasty streak, too. I'm a more orderly kind of guy.

Alright already. The Briords was not in magnum. It was your generic 750 as confirmed by Eben Lilly tonight. Move on, these are not the magnums you are looking for.

PS I said IIRC. Well, obviously I didn't.

Multiple bottles were opened of the '96 Briords, as I saw at least two empties at the end of the night. Not sure if I had the same as everyone else, but I found it quite focused and youthful yet surprisingly big. I didn't taste the '02 Cazin but had some '96 (non-Renaissance) that was brilliant, vegetal in the best way and still piercingly acidic. Lean and tight compared to the Briords but still really long.

Strangely enough, '09 Occhipinti Frappato wasn't really my thing, but '09 Baudry Domaine was one of my favorites by the end of the evening (after at least five hours open).

Brun '09 Grille Midi has really come together over the past 6 months.

To quote Mr. Cartwright as of late, "I still don't want structure in my Beaujolais"

Well, for my part, I'm pretty sure I don't want that much structure in my Beaujolais.
