Not nervous at all

I took Aubry Brut Rose to a couple friends' house for post working-the-polls-all-day collapse/celebration. They're good friends, so they'd made carrot/ginger soup (Radikon Ribolla Gialla) and veal osso bucco (some Spanish red that was actually really pretty delicious, but I completely forget what it was). Also drunk: Ca' de Noci querciole (I now take this wine everywhere), '90 Guigal Hermitage (delicious: great synthesis of structure and delicate, quiet but not over the hill aromatics of licorice merged with the kirschbuttercream layer of these traditional Sicilian almond paste cookies made locally here in NC; open when I arrived). I brought homemade pumpkin pie with unsweetened local whipped cream with cardamom in it b/c cardamom makes my brain feel crazy and turned on.

I got up at 5 am to go work all day at my precinct, and yet now I can't go to sleep, since I feel too fucking wired.

I can't express how breathtaking it feels to me to have my home state, deeply crimson scarlet red since before I was born, suddenly one of the only races left still too close to call. Aah, civilization!

One last: my precinct of 3200 registered voters had over 80 % turnout. Jesus christ.

Sorry, just saw Chris Coad's comment on the other thread. Didn't intend to plagiarize. Still, I can't think of a better sentiment.

...and voiceless, after a day working on campaigns and a night of celebrations and jubilance in the streets of Oakland, CA. If you coulda seen the joy bouncing like diamonds off tear-streaked smiling faces here!

Moment of redemption for this country.

I rode my bike all the way down Telegraph Ave in a sea of honking cars with my hands held high in the air to join a celebration the likes of which I have never seen in this country.

No wine necessary. Later, 2007 Jean-Francois Merieau Touraine Sauvignon Blanc; lovely.

Interesting. I like the flavor but never noticed any particular stimulation for the brain.

You need to try smoking some, Rahsaan. W00t! A ready alternative is Chai.

Do you find a compound effect of the caffeine and the cardamom for brain stimulation?

Much of the chai you see in Average Locations seems so diluted and milkified that it struck me as less of a caffeine jolt than straight tea.

Of course I don't drink much caffeine regardless..

Of course, there's Chai and then there's Chai. If you're talking about the stuff that dispensed by the urn at Indian restaurants, I agree completely. However, the original version, prepared fresh, is quite a different beast, even with milk added. I find that the spices add a kick to the beverage that can't be attributed solely to the limited amount of caffeine present. I may just be sensitive to cardamom, though: biting into a cardamom pod is like an electric shock to the sensory apparatus for me.

Interesting. I like cardamom a lot and often do that, but can't remember any shocks.

Maybe my circuits are wired differently.

Will pay more attention next time.

Was a glass of L Mawby Conservancy flavored with cassis out of line for celebration?

I swallowed hard after seeing the thick armored glass surrounding Obama and his kids in Grant Park. What will they name their new puppy? Maverick? Barracuda would be nice.

I did see it. Across the way, in the street, at the deli counter, in passing cars, horns blaring. Something I won't soon forget.

Okay, I was a bit hyperbolic, I guess. What I mean is that it's one of those smells that, when I smell it, I can't stop smelling it, I just want more, and without moderation. Also in this category: gardenias; magnolias; tuberoses; and, to a lesser extent, daffodils, basil, woodsmoke, and cumin.

Ah, yes, maple wood smoke. I would wear it as cologne.

A friend of mine calls cumin that crotch spice.

Ooh, smells!

I won't try to re-start the perfume/scent discussion we were having at the other place.

But perfumers use cumin to give a "dirty" edge to their scent sometimes.

Yatagan is an example that comes to mind. Mostly sold for men but really unisex. It is a Turkish word (a kind of sword) but the scent suggests a Middle-Eastern marketplace.

You endlessly want more of cumin?

Again interesting.

But I agree about cardamom, the flavors and smells are fascinating.

I was told it was to prevent the stage mic from picking up crowd noise, but I'm not convinced.
