Community Organizer Elected President of the United States

Probably some community organizer. They never amount to anything.

But a valid point has been raised. I intended to open Champagne, but perhaps a US wine would be more appropriate for this specific celebration.

Woo hoo!!!!

Popped a Champagne last night, I love America but can't quite get my palate wrapped around its bubblies (though the J is sometimes nice).

As Coad said, "America! Fuck yeah!"

Godwin's Law must apply here but I don't know how.

Maybe it means that those dissing New Jersey have lost the argument??

At any rate I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. I can barely remember having a president I could be proud of...

Aside from the fact that Bwood screwed up the font size when he quoted VLM, since the H bomb was used, The Politburo has no choice but to close this thread.

Are you admitting to being the politburo?

I'll admit to being happier today than I was yesterday.

Who is Kevin Garnett?

A shoe salesman.

A highly-compensated shoe salesman.

Sorry for the lame NJ crack, with joking about Cleveland off the table for the evening, I was forced to look elsewhere for predictable targets.

Sure, but a good vegetarian....
God, you're a slow learner. How many times do we have to explain to you that "good vegetarian" is an oxymoron. Must be due to living on an island!

I've never had any, and there's a pure of chestnut soup on the Thanksgiving menu at the restaurant where I work and I don't know how to pair with it. I asked the chef to make a batch soon and run it as the amuse bouche for an evening so I can taste it, but he balked, saying it was expensive. It's with pancetta and fried shallots. Help!

Dry sherry. The chestnuts have a sweetness to them that cries out for Sherry IMO.

It's true that there is an innate sweetness and, ahem, nuttiness that might go well with sherry. But I dislike sherry so I won't be recommending it.

The oil and salt (provided by the shallots and pancetta) will take it in a more savory direction, anyway. The soup will be thick and warm; a 'comfort' food.

My slightly-sweet bubbly is one idea. A flowery white (riesling). A bright, light red (p. d'aunis, dolcetto?).

Puffeney Cuve Sacha, or similar. At it's best, a tightrope between the ouill chardonnay and sous-voile (I think) savagnin, which should complement the warm nutty sweet goodness of the chestnuts.

Edit: just noticed the pancetta. What about a lighter bodied somewhat rustic mountain wine, like petit rouge or gamay from Valle d'Aosta, or ruch or even grignolino from Piemonte?
