Check your sanity at the doorstep

Are there any wines that just make you lose it? I am curious to hear what pushes disorderlies over the top in the pleasure department. Not just a good drink, but a spaz-out drink, please.

The '96 Cazin Cour-Chevery Renaissance is definitely in that region for me. A total show-stopper, game-changer, near religious experience levels of bonkers good.

Other recent experiences of craziness include De La Souche Jurançon Sec '07 this last summer and same thing with the 2010 Ameztoi Rubentis.

And if you've got the coin, '75 Musar Blanc...that was my true come-to-jesus wine.

Oh, yeah, if you couldn't tell, I like acid. So these probably aren't for the weak-in-enamel crowd.

1961 LHL demi-sec.

1921 LHL moelleux.

1947 LHL doux.

First and 3rd within the last month.

I'm still howling at the moon.

Sharon, Not lose it, but fine Burgundies at their peak and Ch Beaucastel CNdP come close.

. . . . . . Pete

had the '61 on my 50th at the end of May and the '21 this New Years...agree....
It is stupid to say but I think I have had the '47 but at this moment I just can't pinpoint where or when....

I've never had Musar Blanc. Acid? What grapes are in it?

Obeideh and Merwah...said to be ancient forerunners to semillon and chardonnay, but I haven't come across anything definitive (not that I've looked much either.)

Top notch German Riesling Eiswein (e.g. 1998 Christoffel Urziger Wurzgarten) is the most mind-blowing wine I know, though TBAs can also induce insanity.

A fine red beauty; delicate, briary, loosely woven red striations against a night sky; deep minerals against a pelt of red tiny hearts beating; stones and morsels of serious earth waiting for a mouth, a moment.
Tasted 10/15/11 after cellaring since release.

A contrarian and spoofulated choice Krug Clos de Mesnil. A 1988 opened earlier this year after a very long day and night of drinking blew me away.

The La Bota #19 was also stunning and in the running for my wine of the year.

Some good suggestions already. The '98 Muller-Catoir- Haardter Mandelring Scheurebe Spatlese and Haardter Burgergarten Riesling Spatlese, '96, '02 and '08 Cazin- Cour-Cheverny Cuvee Renaissance, '71, '02 and '08 Huet- Vouvray Le Mont Demi-Sec, '45 & '47 Huet- Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Moelleux, '89 Huet- Vouvray Cuvee Constance, '08 Foreau- Vouvray Demi-Sec & Moelleux and '89 Foreau- Vouvray Reserve and Reserve 1ere Trie are all like catnip to me. Funny how they're all wines with sugar, but with great acidity, but no reds.

Ok Sharon, is anything on here in line to give you your quick and long-awaited spaz-out session?

I know the 61s and 21s are just a matter of motivating to your local discount spaz-out emporium.
