Too bad he just moved to Las Vegas.

will be moving to the mountain time zone...location TBD.

I'm going to miss Matt (and we just met a month ago!). I was sitting next to him at dinner last night and he was so diligent with the note-taking and the photographs while I could barely keep the wines in my flight in order.

He's a great guy and the wine community here in DC is going to be poorer when he leaves.

hell, you could barely keep your eyes open!

You know, I am sort of like a Donnhoff riesling. I start off all zippy and charming, then I hit a long shut down, dumb period, only to wake up surging at the end :).

And, yes, because of that, I could never become the official scribe to replace Matt.

Too bad about the '02 Eparses. My last bottle of the '04 was wonderful a few months back, but probably at peak. It was a very lean, mineral driven wine on release, very dry with almost no fruit whatsoever. With time in bottle it developed a wonderful slightly honeyed richness.

My 02 Eparses have turned brown and oxidized. A few years ago I had one (perhaps with the midwestern Chemist at BLT fest) that was still hanging on but they seem to have lost their freshness.

Just a quick note to say that one (perhaps the last of the same lot) of my '02 Eparses was lovely tonight. No pre-mox, prem-ox or pr-emox. Ah wine.

I have more than one. I guess I should look in on them.
Significant signs of the dreaded.
