TN: 1989 Robert Denis Touraine

Last Saturday Cliff (whom I had not before met and may or may not participate here) was generous enough to open a bottle '89 Robert Denis Touraine-Azay-le-Rideau and it has been stuck in my mind ever since. The wine is still young but beginning to shed sulphur and gain density. So precise, so balanced, so perfect in every way. Ethereal might be the word to describe this bottle. It took me to another world. Maybe this should go in Sharon's thread. Anyway if you have one to spare it might be a nice time to make up a batch of salt cod and potatoes and check in on this wine.

Lots of other great wines were shared in honor of Dressner but this one stood out, at least to me.

Not Kay, but no, it was the Sec. Always a treat to try, though with the sadness that there is one fewer bottle left in existence. Quite tasty, though I personally like the Demi-Sec better.
 
The chateau at Azay-le-Rideau is among the most beautiful, and may help explain the wine's qualities.

I'm so glad you liked it. It was the best showing I've had so far, finally uncoiling at least a little. Yes, back in the day, it was a tough choice between this and the 1995. I decided to splurge!

I slipped and took a spill on the well-worn stairs inside here in 2009. Fortunately, the only thing injured was my pride.
 
Really enjoyed the '95 several months ago...I believe Lee opened up the '89 a year or two ago -- both very interesting wines.
