NWR: Obama Cabinet Lotto

Having just reread the FAQ to assure myeslf that it is only inflammatory political stuff that's frowned upon, I put this question forth: who do you informed Disordistas think will get the various Cabinet posts in the upcoming Obama regime administration?

Here are my own ill-informed thoughts:

State - Dick Lugar
Defense - Colin Powell
Interior - Al Gore
Treasury - Larry Summers
Homeland Security - eliminated?
UN Envoy - Bill Clinton

Other positions, such as Education, Commerce and Agriculture, I freely confess to having no guesses on. Less high profile positions such as Council of Economic Advisors and National Security Advisor are easier to come up with.

What this place needs almost as much as a preview function is a NWR area where those who are interested can yammer on about stuff like politics, Hegel and that funny game Europeans play with their feet without cluttering up the main wine board.

Mark-

I doubt Lugar would take it. A more likely Sec. of State would be Bill Richardson.

The x-Gov of Iowa, whose name sounds like a brand of Pickels is an option for Agriculture.

How about Bill Ayres for the Education post...wouldn't that be a kick in the ass?

You're right. They are all ill-informed. Uniformly old and carrying tons of baggage.

Clinton? Really?

I think Rahm Emanuel is a decent start. **

More competent technocrats (hell, I'd be up for Romney before any one this list) and fewer divas.

** Forgot he worked for Clinton. Uh-oh.

I'd like to see a bunch of folks I may have never heard of who have impressive CVs.

You know, just a thought.

I second Chris' suggestions. Again.

I thought it was gonna be Obama and Change? Did I miss a memo?

The change is a reference to Bush.

I know that. Sorry, internet winkies aren't allowed here so apparently my feeble attempt at a joke eluded discovery.

+1

But if that's not honoured then this:

State: Bill Richardson or Anthony Lake (Biden would have been best, but he's accepted another postion)
Defense: Bob Gates
Interior: Sara Palin (just kidding, but I doubt Gore would accept this post. He might take Energy, which will have a much elevated profile).
Treasury: Sheila Bair (Summers is passee and somewhat tainted from his tenure at Harvard; I bet Buffet would not accept it.).
Homeland Security: Hillary Clinton? Powell could do this, of course, but it would be a step down for him.
UN: Rice (Susan, not Condi).
Education: Adrian Fenty?

Emanuel has made his own bones independently of the Clintons, and he knows congress, which is important. Also, his impersonal efficiency in pursuing an end will probably be a good foil to the O-guy's humanitarian instincts.

If everyone who worked for the Clintons is excluded, you have ruled out most of the democratic party under the age of 30.

Frankly, Emanuel is a great choice. He is just the kind of guy who can smack the returning Democratic party leadership in the nose and let them know the agenda is not theirs, it starts in the White House.

The other lists of choices out there are media lists - they have not come from Obama. I would be surprised if he went with some of the names being tossed about.

He has an opportunity to put together a decent cabinet basketball team, which would seem to be a reasonable criterion, among others.
