2008 Occhipinti Il Frappato Sicilia IGT 13.0%
Delicious strawberry and graphite aromas. Vibrant acidity, happy fruit. Downed by two in a jiffy. The Poulsard of the south. Proof positive that warmer climates need not jam.
2008 Occhipinti Nero d’Avola Siccagno Sicilia IGT 13.0%
Less distinguishable red fruit aromas, same graphite (must be secondary). Powerful acidity puts the tasty, ideally mature, but currently napping fruit firmly in the back seat. Excellent body, texture and tannins; no sign of wood. At this point, acidity reigns. Structure suggests this will someday deliver more than the Frappato; now it has more to withhold.
