A recent 2000 LSG from Gouges made me a little wistful for approachable.

In agreement with his father and uncle, Gregoire has slowly changed the approach to using oak, temperature control (to extract the juice softly) and has an even stricter selection in the vineyard."

I can honestly say I've never had a bottle of Gouges that was ready to drink. I think I've only viewed the light at the end of a very long tunnel. Beautiful looking light, however.

1997s and 1985s are ready.
 
Not the Les St. Georges or an 08 Gouges but I have found the 02 Les Porrets quite approachable even if I am still keeping most of the case for later.

I don't know what you all are complaining about. A 1990 Gouges Clos des Porrets Saint-Georges Blanc seemed quite ready for primetime. As Jay said, the 1985s are in a sweet spot these days too. I've even had a 1998 that was drinking pretty well.

-Eden (if you're looking for immediate gratification, why not buy Comte Armand Pommard, Clos des Epeneaux and save the Gouges for those of us who intend to live forever?)

All of it?

Have you had a lot of Gouges wines in the old style that you've loved?

I totally admit to trying them all too young, but I've never had a convincing wine from them despite the announcements every 3 or 4 years that "Gouges is back!"

I know he does. And yet he is so critical of much Volnay for being unyielding!
