Von Hövel Riesling w/dinner...

Von Hövel Oberemmeler Hütte Spätlese Riesling '07 -- Pale yellow, clean/fresh aromas, everything light (color, flowers, fruit, grapes), nice crispness, tropical fruits, light to medium body, lovely interplay of sweetness and acidity, expressive, nothing not to like. [E]

Served with Grilled Sea Bass and Grilled Vegetables...

Once again, Maureen, thanks for the tout!

Perhaps the most harmonious pairing with this lovely wine was with the Oatmeal Cookies. The wine and the cookies were really rhapsodizing.

Your comments on the cookies reminds me of an Ojai Syrah I once had that was a brutal match with dinner, but a wonder with chocolate chip cookies.

Maureen, I actually have already given thought to what I might say if asked that question and still am not confident as to how to answer.

I find it difficult to balance my understanding that Riesling often makes good old bones against my observation that this bottling seems a bit lightweight...delicious, but somewhat light in texture/structure/etc.

I think it is a bottling that needs to be monitored on a regular basis as it would be a shame if it was allowed to slip into oblivion in the cellar.

What is your opinion?

There need not be a contradiction. Often is not always. And von Hovel doesn't go for a big style.
