Never quite settles in a spot, which makes it interesting. Hairspray, flint, nice acidity, quince, a bit of armpit, slightly oxidative. Pretty much classic stuff. Not top tier, but very good, and very what it is.

Surprised to find it oxidative, since some of that flint might be SO2?

But I am a big believer in off-vintage Savennieres from a good site at 15 years. In fact, that may be the best way to enjoy the wines.

Where did you find this one?

Dude, '93 was no where near as off a vintage for dry Chenin as that dead '82 Hune you, Levi and the rest of the necrophiliacs were enthralled with.

Brad-

Had the '93 a couple of times back in the waining years of the 20th century and the wine was beautiful. Certainly no '89 or '90, but quite lovely in its own right. It's been awhile since I last had one, but I don't recall any signs of oxidative tendencies.

Well, now you have me focused back on it, after plowing through the better part of a moderately corked 98 Burgaud CR (a real bummer, it was clearly beautiful). OK...I said SLIGHTLY oxidative, and I'm not picking that up now. It morphed quite a bit over the eve.

I like this a lot but would not step it up into "beautiful". The 90 Speciale I had a couple of months ago, definitely stepped much further into the transcendent category.

If you make it east, I'll open up an '89 Closel- "Clos Papillon Cuvee speciale" bottling. That and the '96 are benchmark Savennieres.
