Rostaing Landonne Cote Rotie '03???

Just received Rene Rostaing La Landonne Cote Rotie '03 and find it curious that reviews of the bottling are all over board...ranging from just [Good] all the way up to [Outstanding].

Any opinions here on this wine?

Thanks!

Well, one of the best 03 Côte Rotie.
Has some structure (la Landonne is one of the northern most vineyard with an east - south east exposure).
Tastes like any syrah cuvée from the Languedoc from any other vintage than '03. You can find this kind of wine with a nicer label and a 3 pound bottles for less than 10 euros over here. Tons of it in fact since any movie star, lawyer or trader that bought some land in the Languedoc is making his.

So, any indictment(s) are of this bottling rather than Cote Roties in general!?!

I can't speak for everyone, Pete, but Rostaing uses roto fermenters in his cellar, as well as a mix of small and big oak barrels for aging. I like his wines, but I think the rotofermenters can extract more color and tannin then some folks prefer in their syrah.
