They're certainly not inexpensive, but I think the price thing is being overblown here. A simple winesearcher look turns up over twenty sources from '92 up through current release for under $60. Sure there are better value regions out there but if we're comparing apples to apples, that looks downright cheap for a serious wine in Napa to me.

My own issue is actually not really about the price of the wines, but with the laziness of a lot of the writing about them. The prices are what they are, but if you're going to write an article promoting a producer, you've gotta explain to me why I should buy a bottle. Saying that they're made in a restrained style isn't enough, because while that might be a man-bites-dog story in Napa, it doesn't distinguish the wines from all the restrained options I have outside Napa. I'm not saying the wines aren't worth the tab, just that the various journalists who have decided to write about them haven't seemed to do a very good job explaining why they -are- worth the tab.

On a semi-related note I had a very nice 2007 Frogs Leap Rutherford Cab that was similar to Corison over the Christmas Break. This winery gets almost no mentions in the press and blog/wineboard world. I have been very impressed with a few of their recent releases including a very nice 07 Petite Sirah that came in at 13% alcohol. I was also told that they are one (if not the only) vineyard to pay all of their vineyard workers Health Benefits.

It's a big world out there. Perhaps they get mentioned more in the California-centric orbit. Does that West Coast Wine forum still exist?
Based on the recommendation of a friend I visited Frogs Leap on my second trip to Napanoma, when I was only just beginning to get into wine. I remember a nice visit, and I may have even bought something. But yes, I quickly forgot about them.
