2010 Chidaine, Touraine, Sauvignon (11/12/11): Pale color with a citrusy/grassy/weedy nose. Rich in the mid-palate in a way that I did not expect and am not entirely sure that I like. Acidity is there but does not dance the way a bottle of the 2009 last summer did. The 2010 has a plastic cork. Don’t remember if the 2009 did and so I don’t know if that is a factor or if it is just bottle variation and/or difference in vintage. Can’t complain for the price.
2010 Guion Bourgueil (11/12/11): Dark purple. Grapey nose with some herbal notes. Tannin seems well balanced. All elements seem aligned but it seems very young. Quenching with spicy lime pickles. Had it a few weeks later on a cold, snowy night with lentils and pasta and it hit all the right spots. Maybe the first notes over-intellectualized the experience of the wine.
