Lovely Syrah

Duncan and Nathan, aka Arnot-Roberts, bought my lunch one day last winter, over a few bottles of Gamay, and also gave me some bottles of their wares. Though I'd tasted it before, at a stand-up, walk-around kind of event at RN74 a couple years back, their '08 Clary Ranch Syrah hadn't quite snagged my attention, and I think that says a lot about how bad those kinds of tastings are for learning much of anything about the wines being poured at them; just way too many distractions.
With a plate of sausages and roasted vegetables, this was just beautiful. Very spirited, light on its feet (11.8% abv), and really, kind of breath-taking. What a nice job these fellows have done here!

My idea of a certain type of a good time= sitting by that big pond in Central Park and just watching the people "stroll" by.
Hey, did George David get in touch with you?

I think I attended the same event at RN74. Good wines all around but the joint was loud as hell and Raj kept opening big bottles of White Burgundy and it was difficult focusing on the Syrahs at hand. The Arnot-Roberts wines do require a modicum of focused interaction on the part of the drinker. Donkey and Goat, Drew, La Clarine, ESJ all benefit from engaged drinkers (technically I guess they'd be single drinkers too, but that's a pre-prenup call, I suppose).

Agreed on the first count, and yes he did on the second. I pointed him in what I believe was the right direction.
