Acronyms/Abbreviations/etc.??

I spent a good part of my career working as a subcontractor on the NASA Apollo and Space Shuttle programs; thus, I have a history of being deluged with acronyms and abbreviations. So, yes, I may be overly sensitive.

Even so, am I the only person here who is continually bewildered by the rampant usage of acronyms/abbreviations/etc. here on WD? It is rampant on the Internet but seems like it may be more prevalent here on WD.

Surely, it would be easy for folks here to take another second or two and type out what they are really referencing.

One (or maybe just I) would hope!

Mark, I haven't kept a list of examples.

A recent one used here that comes to mind is BGO. What in the world is BGO?

I miss a Wine Disorder where Bachman Turner Overdrive references were barely frowned upon.

The long form and then the abbreviation is best, but unexpected on the web. A quibble:
Acronyms: FUBAR, SNAFU
Initialism: BGO

Don't jump to conclusions. The intersection of chemists and arguments here make me think that it's only a matter of time before Bismuth Germanate and Blinding Glimpse of the Obvious intersect in the same thread.

This is of course an empirical question that could be answered if anyone wanted to compile the data. But I'm not volunteering.

My guess is that there may be more acronyms here as opposed to Berserkers for example, because there are fewer participants here and a greater chance that people will understand the acronym.

As an aside, I like the way you use an acronym in the midst of decrying acronyms!
