2002 Lange reserve Pinot Noir, alc 13.9%... Great earthy nose...palate still shows some sweet fruit and good acidity....10 yrs have been kind to this...a nice example of a middle aged Willamette PN....enjoyed while watching Djokovic squeak out the Australian Open

Dude, that thing went from 3.30am 'til I had to leave for brunch. I missed the end!

But what tennis. I would have cast off eggs benedict to remain ocularly tethered to the screen.

(However, one cannot cast off one's parents' anniversary brunch as easily as some other occasion for soppy muffin.)

That's an early brunch.

I was up at various points in the night/early morning to put my son back to sleep and I strongly debated turning on the match. But sleep is too precious these days and I'm getting over a cold so I took the safe route and slept.

Little did I know that when I finally woke up for good they would still be playing. Of course the irony is that I didn't even turn it on right away since I assumed it was over. Now to replay!

I recall being favorably impressed with Lange's Reserve PN when visiting them years ago, but being quite put off by the pricing. Even by California PN standards, their wines were pretty pricey. Good to know that they can turn into something good with time, though. Nice view from up there, too.

They have some higher end wines I believe, both cuvees and single vineyard, but I don't think this wine is very expensive - about $30 and probably in the market for less.

That said, I've tried a range of their 2007 and 2008 pinots over the last couple years and did not find them particularly good at any price. I think the son took over the operation (and wine making) in 2004 or 2005?
