NV Chidaine Montlouis-sur-Loire Méthode Traditionnelle

It is its 2008 rendition. It is gobsmacking.

How can this be this good? It tastes like he's farming .0002 hectares. (The Cédric Bouchard of Montlouis.)

I kid, there, but my purpose remains serious: an expression of shock and delight.

And pleasure at seeing the thin funnel of beads rise from the vortex of the glass to its apex.

But dude, like, $19.99? PTL. PSA.

Why shocked ? I thought I had forced this stuff on you, successfully.
I actually need to retaste the 2009, one that Joe the Traveler describes as crazy ripe. It's been 5 months.
As much as I admire the likes of 2008 and 2004 Brut Montlouis, it's the riper stuff ( 2002, 2005 ) that has yielded some seriously age worthy material. Whether 2009 automatically belongs to that list, I do not know, but I plan to experiment with it.

Why the shock? Chidaine hit it out of the park in '08 with every bottling I tried (I've got Les Choisilles in the batcave to try when I return to those shores).

I need to keep better notes.

Interesting; why do you think that is?

I am guessing the simplest possible explanation is applicable - the material that goes into the brut is relatively under-fruited, but strikes a perfect balance in vintages such as 2002 and 2005.

I'm sure that's most of the story.

So much anticipation, then I was caught snoozing when this came out. Can't wait to read your take on it.

If you ever make your out to my part of the Midwest, Ian, I'll open a bottle for you (after my return, of course).
